We are currently seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager who is passionate about making a difference. Our team needs dedicated risk management support to help them ensure compliance with OSHA as well as reduce the risk and cost associated with workplace injury & illness.
We are searching for an Environmental Health & Safety Manager who will assess the risk, develop a strategic plan of action and serve as a trusted risk manager to our team. That risk manager needs to be able to handle construction related safety issues that may expose our company to injuries or OSHA citations (and/or other regulatory exposures).
This job requires professionalism and a broad technical knowledge of OSHA, Workers’ Compensation claims management, California Experience Rating, insurance policy terms and employment issues. Specific job duties entail:
Developing and executing corporate and site-specific safety plans according to regulatory guidelines and company exposures
Preparing policies and programs to establish a culture of safety and health
Evaluating practices, procedures and sites to assess risk and adherence to compliance requirements
Reviewing accident reports and trends
Applying and enforcing safety procedures
Ensuring state, local, and federal safety laws are being observed
Determining unsafe conditions and advising appropriate corrective action
Most importantly, being a change agent helping to create a participatory safety culture
Responsibilities:
The Environmental Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for directing safety and engineering to ensure code and safety (OSHA) regulations are in compliance.
Lead our safety efforts to reduce our X-Mod, injury exposures and enhance the buy-in to safety across our company
Lead and support safety committee initiatives
Assist managers in the development of safety management programs by site
Conducted on-site training to educate staff on the best practices in hazard recognition and safe behaviors
Review all construction projects for OSHA and other safety conformance
Conduct and lead accident and near-miss investigations
Conduct new hire safety orientation and scheduled follow ups
Responsible for documentation, management, training, and OSHA audits and investigations
Arrange and/or conduct accident prevention and training classes in order to minimize claims costs and enhance safety
Manage pre-surveys, safety inspections, risk assessments and audits
Perform client claim reviews and loss trending
Develop OSHA compliant programs to meet project and company needs
Analyze carrier loss data to determine claim closure action plans and service schedules
Develop and conduct training (webinar, online and in-person) for senior management and supervisors on safety and risk management programs.
Leverage technology for data trending and efficiencies
The Environmental Health & Safety Manager will have the ability to provide strong leadership and management skills for direct/indirect reports and cross-functional teams.
Experience:
The ideal Environmental Health & Safety Manager has years of working for a construction employer, analyzing risk and helping to reduce injury exposures, maintain OSHA compliance and working to maintain a successful X-Mod.
The candidate should be experienced in analyzing and preparing trending reports and providing professional presentations to senior management. Experience with in-person and video-based presentations is a must.
The ideal Environmental Health & Safety Manager must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with all levels of an organization what the risk issues are and be able to provide a plan and the tools to minimize risk. This role requires strength in leadership, management and diplomacy.
Requirements:
Bi-lingual (Spanish)
You’re dynamic and love working with teams and people
Candidate must have 5 + years as a construction safety manager
You have a technical knowledge of OSHA, DOSH, ANSI, EPA, NFPA, Workers’ Compensation regulations, etc.
Certificates of CSP, CHST, etc. a plus
Bachelor’s Degree or higher a plus
Prior safety and risk management experience focused on reducing insurance costs and maintaining a competitive X-Mod
Must be able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing, and have an ability to summarize data in a succinct manner
Must be able to confidently recommend, persuade, negotiate, and achieve results

Excellent computer skills (especially MSFT Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
The ability to be a chameleon and adjust to different personalities
